It is so difficult to review Italian in NYC because there are just so many delicious, authentic, homey places. That being said, this may be my absolute favorite. I put off going here for months, seduced by the buzzier reservations at Massara, Don Angie, San Sabino, etc. What a mistake - this place is perfection. From the dark, candlelit, intimate space, saved from being pigeonholed into solely a "date" space by the hum of energy punctuated by loud bursts of laughter and conversation, to the friendly and conversational staff (the woman who served our cocktails confessed her feelings about the new menu - spoiler- she loved it all - spoiler - we agree,) to the surprising take on traditional dishes, giving them vibrant twists that you won't find anywhere else. The poached shrimp may be (is) my favorite appetizer in NYC. I had to stop myself from drinking the sauce at the end. The bread service is worth it here, but try not to inhale it all (the cheese butter makes that a real task) before the pasta. Dipping is a must. The roasted oysters in crab butter may be the only exception to my 'only eat oyster raw' rule. Perfectly tender - almost impossible to even detect that they have been cooked, and that chili/vinegar/ butter was just amazing. Pastas were fabulous, perfectly cooked spaghetti with a little chew, and certainly a sciatelleti and clams dish you won't find anywhere else in the city. Almost a soupy sauce that begs to be sopped up with some bread. Agnolleti also delicious and finished off with the cheesecake that Resy states is one of the best in the city (agree.) Not sure how else to rave - just go and experience it!

The food here is some of the best Italian food in the city. The bread will make you fall to your knees... and that's just the first thing to hit the table. We happened to start chatting to the manager, and she was so lovely and kind. Da Toscano is truly a home-away-from-home type of place. When you're there, you're family (corny, I know, BUT TRUE!).

We ordered so much don't even know where to begin. The octopus carpaccio was cut so thin but so flavorful. The little gems salad also very refreshing. We ordered about 5 plates of pasta and the duck ragu and lobster tagliatelle were probably the top 2. Pork chops as main also very tender. Love the cozy atmosphere and servers were extremely friendly!! Can't go wrong with a homy, lowkey pasta restaurant :)

I had been dying to try da Toscano for so long and was so happy to finally score a Friday night reservation! We started with some martinis, which were very strong and delicious. We shared the braised artichokes and the octopus carpaccio. Both were fantastic, but the octopus was definitely a standout for us. For our mains, we shared the clam pasta and the lamb agnolotti! My favorite was the clam pasta as it was so fresh and flavorful, but the agnolotti was stuffed with meat and very well done as well. I will be back to try more!
